Jeri Ryan, inspiration
Inspiration is lacking in my department, what with being new to blogging. I assume that most people have the problem of never knowing what to write when they start out, but then again you know what they say when you assume. I injected several search terms into Google, such as “blog ideas”, “starting a blog”, “blogging”, “blog topics”, and “Jeri Ryan” to get some much needed inspiration. After scanning dozens of sites on blogging and a few pictures of Seven, I finally ran into DarrenBarefoot.com, which after scrolling down the list gave me the idea to write about a superpower I would choose to have [#14 if you're interested]. This topic has gone through my head many, many times before, along with being discussed among my friends, all of us being nerds and everything…
After long, debilitating hours over the span of years, I finally concluded that the best ever superpower would be the ability to control electrons. Think about it. That gives you control over everything. Power outage at home? Jump start the electricity by throwing some charged electrons into the system. You can even assemble a makeshift generator by throwing together a magnet and copper coil with available atoms. Stuck in jail? No problem! Merely dissolve the concrete wall [or floor if you feel like being discreet] by breaking the bonds that make up its molecules. Out camping and getting cold? Don’t worry about matches or lighters. Simply spike the energy on that pile of wood and tinder and you’ll have a fire in no time.
Anything can be done with such a versatile superpower. Villains don’t stand a chance against you. Nothing they can devise will hurt you. Gunshots can be phased right through you by creating a subatomic hole through which the bullet can pass. Or if you’re feeling brave, you can just lock onto the bullet and destroy it before it hits you. Elaborate mousetraps can’t hold you. No machine they hook you up to can take information from your brain without receiving a fatal dose of electricity.
Of course, there are immediate, all-purpose uses for electron control. Brains are prime candidates for manipulation, being themselves controlled by the charging of electrons from the Sodium-Potassium pumps in the neurons. No strong force is required to replace someone’s thoughts with your thoughts, whether they be humrous or hostile. Program your friend to believe he always needs to go to the bathroom. Program your girlfriend to let you take a guys night out. Nothing is out of your reach.
Telekinesis is another natural side-effect of electron control. You can grapple onto the bonds and static electricity of an object, and lift it into the air to show off or chuck it at someone to shut them up, whichever suits your personality better. Doors open automatically for you, TVs and computers turn on with a thought, and food comes to you just when you become hungry.
Damn, how awesome that would be!
